SN87 / PURPOSE

Intelligence is not
assurance.

Autonomous systems can produce work faster than institutions can independently understand and trust it. The capacity to act must be matched by the capacity to review, contest, and learn.

01 / THE GAP

More work. Less certainty.

An agent can complete a task and still follow an outdated source, miss a governing requirement, or overlook a better continuation. Visibility helps, but observing a run is not the same as independently assuring it.

02 / THE BET

Make disagreement productive.

Proof of Assurance asks whether open competition can discover material deficiencies, require evidence for findings, and reward calibrated judgment—including a justified abstention. That is a hypothesis to be tested, not a promised result.

03 / THE LONG VIEW

Review the run. Improve the next.

As autonomous work grows, its traces, decisions, artifacts, and outcomes may accumulate faster than they can be governed or learned from. The paper calls that externality digital exhaust and the unreviewed accumulation invisible debt. SN87 proposes one bounded assurance response—not a claim to solve every part of the problem.
